Smokey Roe started out as an old country band back in
the early 70's they were an off-shoot of the Woodstock people. When I think
of Smoky Roe it reminds me of something out of the novel by Jack Kerouac his
book " On the Road". Smokey Roe was a band that was lost in a time Warp. It
was a period in History when nobody cared about anything.
The Vietnam war had just ended and we were seeing lots of "Old War Friends".
Life was hard back then but somehow between the weed the whites the food
stamps and the sorry gigs we made it through. When I think back
on those days All I remember is the good times
like the time we drove to L.A. in three days from back east and stayed in
the Capitol Records Artist hotel. Waiting for a call from some Hollywood
producer, I think his name was Bill Simzick or something like that. I
remember them telling me they liked one of my songs but nothing ever
happened. When we hit Denver on the way back we filled up our car with Coors
Beer. After that one of the guys quit so we did a Three Piece gig for a
while.
I still wonder what happened to that song they liked?
